360º : Women In Sound
The inspiration for this project came from a perceived gender imbalance within
the sound art community. 360° was designed to increase the visibility of
and establish a network between women working with sound within Australia.
The project consists of two separate exhibitions and a live sound performance.
360° aims to explore short and long form composition, quadraphonic installation,
sound sculpture and the relationship between sound, video and digital media.
Short form composition will be addressed in quadraphonic and video art /soundtrack
installations with a series of one minute pieces played back to back, in continuous
loops. The quadraphonic room is intended to create an immersive experience
of variable intensity and aesthetic, displaying diverse influences from the
sonic arts. Soundtrack works chosen highlight the possibility in the sound
and visual relationship. Internationally acclaimed sound artist, composer and researcher Dr
Ros Bandt will be exhibiting sound sculpture based on Australian wheat
silos titled Silo Stories. Composer Thembi
Soddell will be presenting a 23 minute quadraphonic piece titled Intimacy. Blam!: a video game visually and sonically designed by Isobel
